Subaru Forester is an all-wheel drive five-door SUV of a compact class that combines elegant design, practical and functional interior, modern technical components and good "driving" and off-road potential ... Its main target audience is middle-aged family men living in the city, for whom a car important is the "balance of all parameters" ...

The fifth generation of the crossover in all its glory appeared before the world community at the end of March 2018 - on the catwalks of the International New York Auto Show, and its sales on the Russian market started in the fall of the same year.

After the "next reincarnation" in terms of external design, the five-door took the evolutionary path, but otherwise changed dramatically - it "moved" to a new modular SGP platform, acquired a seriously redesigned interior decoration, "armed" with modern options and became more comfortable and manageable on the go ...

Outside, the "fifth" Subaru Forester looks attractive, harmonious, fresh and quite brutal, and its outlines lack contradictory elements (as well as bright design solutions).

The austere front end of the SUV is adorned with menacingly frowned headlights, a monumental “hexagon” of the radiator grille with chrome-plated frames and a raised bumper, while its tightened stern flaunts a large tailgate, stylish C-shaped lights and a simple bumper with just one exhaust pipe.

From the side, the car pleases with a balanced, moderately solid and expressive appearance - a long hood, a slightly sloping roof, developed "musculature" of rounded-square wheel arches, an upward sill line and impressive ground clearance.

The fifth generation Forester is a representative of the compact segment: its length is 4625 mm, height - 1730 mm, width - 1815 mm. The wheelbase extends at 2670 mm at the five-door, and its ground clearance is 220 mm.

The curb weight of the crossover varies from 1599 to 1630 kg, depending on the modification, and its maximum weight slightly exceeds 2.2 tons.

The interior of the Subaru Forester 2019 model year is designed to match the exterior - it looks nice, modern and concise, but does not catch the eye with something special.

Directly in front of the driver is a multifunctional steering wheel with a "puffy" three-spoke rim and an unpretentious, but extremely understandable "toolbox" with two dial gauges and a small color display between them. The symmetrical center console is decorated with a pair of color screens (the upper 3.5-inch serves as a board computer, and the lower 6.5-8-inch diagonal contains multimedia functions) and an unpretentious air conditioning unit.

Among other things, the decoration of the car has a well-thought-out ergonomics, a good level of assembly and good finishing materials - high-quality plastics, pleasant leather, glossy decor, metal inserts, etc.

The front seats of the fifth generation Subaru Forester do not stand out for anything special - they have a comfortable profile with well-developed sidewalls, padding that is optimal in terms of rigidity and normal adjustment ranges. On the second row there is a comfortable sofa (however, backrest adjustment is available only as an option) and a free space carriage.

With practicality, this crossover is in complete order - it boasts a spacious luggage compartment with a wide opening, the volume of which in normal condition reaches 505 liters. The second row of seats folds in two asymmetrical parts, forming a completely flat "rookery" and increasing the capacity of the "hold" to 1,775 liters. Under the raised floor there is an organizer, under which there is a dock with an outer diameter reduced by 30 mm.

On the Russian market, the "fifth" Subaru Forester is offered with two four-cylinder gasoline "aspirated" with horizontally opposed design, aluminum cylinder blocks, direct fuel injection, 16-valve timing and variable valve timing:

  • The base versions are assigned to the 2.0-liter FB20 unit, which generates 150 horsepower at 6000-6200 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.
  • "Top" performances "flaunt" the FB25 engine with a working volume of 2.5 liters, producing 185 hp. at 5800 rpm and 239 Nm of rotational potential at 4400 rpm.

By default, the crossover is equipped with the Lineartronic wedge-chain variator, which, on versions with a 2.5-liter engine, is also capable of boasting seven fixed pseudo-gears with the ability to switch them by means of paddle shifters.

Nominally, the car also relies on an all-wheel drive transmission Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch that supplies traction to the wheels of the rear axle (and under normal conditions the torque is distributed in a ratio of 60:40, but this proportion may vary depending on the road situation).

From a standstill to 100 km / h, the compact SUV accelerates after 9.5-10.3 seconds, accelerates to a maximum of 193-207 km / h, in the combined mode it consumes 7.2 ~ 7.4 liters for every “hundred” of run.

At the heart of the fifth generation Subaru Forester is the modular SGP (Subaru Global Platform) bogie with a longitudinally located power plant and a body made with abundant use of high-strength grades of steel. "In a circle" the car is equipped with independent suspensions: in the front - a McPherson-type design, in the back - a two-wishbone system with a toe-in rod.

The crossover has a rack and pinion steering complex with electric power assistance and a variable gear ratio. On all wheels of the five-door, ventilated disc brakes are used, aggregated with ABS, EBD and other modern "gadgets".

In Russia, the fifth generation Subaru Forester is offered in six equipment options - "Standard", "Comfort", "Elegance", "Elegance ES", "Elegance + ES" and "Premium ES" (and the first four can be purchased only with a 2.0-liter engine , and the remaining two - exclusively with a 2.5-liter).

An all-terrain vehicle in the basic configuration costs from 1,939,000 rubles, and its arsenal includes: seven airbags, one-zone climate control, ABS, ESP, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, an electric driver's seat, a media center with a 6.5-inch screen , LED headlights, light and rain sensors, high-quality audio system, ERA-GLONASS technology, electromechanical "handbrake" and much more.

A five-door car with a 185-strong "four" will cost the minimum amount of 2,409,900 rubles, and for the "top-end" modification you will have to pay from 2,549,900 rubles.

The most "advanced" crossover can additionally boast: leather interior, electric fifth door, heated steering wheel and rear sofa, adaptive cruise, multimedia complex with 8-inch touchscreen, keyless entry and engine start system, fully LED optics, blind spot monitoring, 18-inch rollers, sunroof, premium Harman / Kardon music, automatic braking and other bells and whistles.
