The development of a new front-wheel drive hatchback Moskvich-2141, which replaced the rear-wheel drive Moskvich-2140 model, started at AZLK in the second half of the 70s of the last century. The French five-door Simca-1308 was taken as the basis for the car, which entered mass production in 1986. Its release in this form continued until 1997, after which a modernized version of the Moskvich-2141-02 called "Svyatogor", Which received a redesigned appearance and a more powerful engine. The hatch life cycle ended in 2001, and its total circulation exceeded 716 thousand copies.

At the time of its appearance, the Moskvich-2141 was distinguished by a very modern look - a streamlined body shape with a rear roof pillar piled forward, a large glazing area and rectangular lighting units.

And after the modernization, the car received a different design of the front end, which made it look a little more noble.

The dimensions of the five-door hatchback are as follows: 4350 mm in length, 1690 mm in width, 1400 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm of the total length, and the minimum ground clearance is 140 mm. When equipped, the car weighs from 1055 to 1080 kg, depending on the modification.

By today's standards, the interior of Moskvich-2141 looks simple and archaic - a large steering wheel with two spokes and a thin rim, old-fashioned instrumentation with the necessary minimum of analog instruments and a rectangular console in the center with ventilation deflectors, "sliders" of the heating system and several auxiliary buttons.
In the interior decoration of the hatchback, in addition to hard plastics, synthetic materials were also used, in particular polyurethane foam, but the level of assembly, even at the time the cars left the assembly line, did not differ in quality.
The salon of Moskvich-2141 is designed for five people, but shapeless seats are installed both in front and in the back.

The luggage compartment of the domestic five-door model can accommodate up to 370 liters of luggage in the "stowed" state, taking into account the full-size spare wheel in the underground niche. The backrest of the rear sofa folds down to increase the cargo area.

Specifications. A wide range of power plants was installed on the Moskvich-2141.

  • Initially, the car was equipped with four-cylinder gasoline engines UZAM-331.1 and UZAM-3317 with a carburetor power system of 1.5 and 1.7 liters, generating 71 and 86 horsepower (106 and 133 Nm of torque, respectively).
  • Later on the hatchback appeared carburetor petrol "fours" VAZ-2106-70 and VAZ-21213: the first 1.6-liter version produced 80 "horses" and 121 Nm of thrust, the second 1.7-liter - 83 forces and 130 Nm.
  • There was also a diesel unit Ford-XLD418 with a volume of 1.8 liters and a capacity of 60 "mares", producing 110 Nm, but it was offered for export versions of the car.
  • After the appearance of "Svyatogor" in 1997, the engine compartment of the five-door was filled with a 2.0-liter Renault-D3R 8-valve injection engine, the potential of which has 114 horsepower and 168 Nm of maximum torque.

All engines were combined exclusively with a 5-speed "mechanics" and a front-wheel drive transmission, which allowed the car to pick up the first 100 km / h from a standstill after 11.5-25 seconds, change 140-195 km / h and consume 8.2-9.0 liters of fuel on average. combined cycle (diesel version - 5.7 liters).

At the heart of the Moskvich-2141 is a front-wheel drive platform, on which the power unit is transversely mounted and a five-door load-bearing body is placed. At the front of the car, an independent suspension with MacPherson struts is involved, at the rear is a dependent architecture of a lever-spring type with a pair of longitudinal plate levers welded to an elastic transverse beam.

The hatchback is equipped with a rack and pinion steering system, as well as front disc and rear drum brakes.

At the end of 2015, in the secondary market of Russia, Moskvich-2141 is sold at a price of 40,000 to 90,000 rubles, depending on the modification and year of manufacture (although you can find more affordable options).

The advantages of the car are considered to be excellent maintainability, availability of spare parts, roomy interior, efficiently working "stove" and acceptable driving performance.
But it also has disadvantages - unreliability, weak brakes, poor sound insulation and poor build quality.

Modifications. In addition to the massive basic configurations, it had a Moskvich-2141 and small-scale versions.

And one of them is a long wheelbase hatchback called "Yury Dolgoruky”, A feature of which was the distance between the axles increased by 200 mm. Otherwise, it practically did not differ from the standard model.

Under the name "Prince Vladimir»A similarly elongated car was produced, but in a three-volume body.

Moskvich "Ivan Kalita"- a four-door executive class sedan based on the" 2141st ". It was made piece by piece, since it had no mass demand, but was equipped with 2.0-liter gasoline engines with a capacity of 113-145 horsepower, front or all-wheel drive.

In addition to this, there were also more unusual modifications in the Moskvich-2141 palette - a two-seater coupe "Duet"And its available version"Duet-2", As well as a two-door pickup truck with the factory index" 2335 ".
